Smart Dimension Capture

Camera-based capture of parcel length, width and height for warehouse and dispatch workflows. A depth camera above a dedicated station measures each parcel and saves an image with the measurement. Weight is captured separately, by a compatible connected scale where it is needed. Delivered by Stravion Technologies.

In one sentence

A station that measures a parcel's length, width and height with a camera, and keeps the result as a record.

The workflow this page follows

The parcel capture point

Measure once. Use the record.

Measuring a parcel by hand means a tape, three readings, and typing the numbers into a system afterwards.

Smart Dimension Capture moves that job to a dedicated station. A parcel is placed under the camera, its length, width and height are captured together, an image is saved, and the result is kept as a record.

A parcel capture station: a cardboard box on a flat platform beneath a camera mounted on an upright post, with a screen beside it.

The capture workflow

What happens at the station.

Capture follows the same steps for each parcel. Each step does one job.

Stage 01 · 3

Place the parcel

The parcel is placed on the capture area, beneath the camera.

Dimensions

Three dimensions from one view.

A depth camera is mounted above the capture area. Dimensioning software uses its view of the parcel to measure length, width and height together, in one capture rather than three separate readings.

An image is saved with every capture. The record then shows what the parcel looked like as well as what it measured.

What a station can measure depends on the equipment chosen and how it is mounted. Equipment and measurement specifications are tailored to your parcels and site.

Weight is captured separately by a scale, where one is fitted.

Weight

A scale measures weight.

The camera measures size. It does not measure weight.

Where weight capture is required, a compatible scale is added to the station with an agreed data connection. Which scale is used, and how its reading is recorded, are agreed as part of the scope.

Option A

Dimension capture

Depth camera, mounting, processing computer and dimensioning software.

Option B

Dimension and weight

The capture station with a compatible scale and the agreed data connection.

Where it is used

At the points where parcels are measured.

01

Warehouse

Capture parcel dimensions at a dedicated station as part of warehouse work.

02

Dispatch

Capture parcel dimensions before goods leave, with weight where a scale is fitted.

Dimension capture can run on its own. Any data connection is agreed for each site rather than assumed.

Implementation

Specified for your parcels and your site.

A capture station is specified against the parcels it will measure and the place it will stand. The range of parcel sizes, the space available, and whether weight is needed all shape the equipment and the layout.

The final equipment and layout are site specific. They are confirmed during solution design, together with any data connection.
